Local MissionsEveryone has heard the Biblical command to “love your neighbor”. At Covenant, we strive daily to put that into action through a variety of on-going events, ministries, and projects. Would you join us as we reach out with the love of Christ?
His Helping Hands Ministry
Helping Hands is a team of people who ‘adopt’ needy families in our region who desire to escape poverty. We offer financial counseling, spiritual mentoring, financial assistance, and other forms of holistic help to a small number of people as we journey through difficult issues in their lives. This ministry also oversees our Compassion Bags, food given to the needy who come to our church. This ministry is always seeking individuals who can offer services or compassion to people in need within our community. For more information, contact Yolanda Clark at email@example.com.
Home Improvement Ministry
Our HIM team serves in construction and repair ministries throughout the region. Our team specializes in wheelchair ramps and necessary health-related improvements, especially for the elderly and home-bound. We have an active team with ongoing projects, and we offer Work Days for the whole church periodically. Our HIM team also oversees our church’s volunteer work with Habitat with Humanity. We always seek any willing servant for any of our projects. For information, contact Jim Hicks at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dothan Rescue Mission
Covenant is now cooking and serving the dinner meal the last week of every month at Dothan Rescue Mission. The residents are so grateful for the wonderful meals our cooks prepare, it is truly a blessing to serve. Please consider helping with this ministry. We are in need of more cooks. For details please contact Pat Miller at email@example.com.
Covenant participates in the Adopt-A-School program which is administered through the Dothan Education Foundation to provide volunteers and resources to Dothan City Schools. We have “adopted” Faine Elementary and Highland Elementary. At Faine we provide back to school supplies for grades K-2 and at Highlands Elementary we sponsor a fall festival for the children. Please contact Tammy Denhart at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in assisting with these programs.
Meals on Wheels
Meals on Wheels is a longtime ministry of CUMC. Volunteers deliver a noon meal to homebound seniors Tuesday through Friday every week. Meals are picked up for delivery at 10:45 am each day and can be delivered within one hour. This ministry provides a unique opportunity to share the love of Christ to area seniors in need of companionship. For more information please contact Barbi Nolan at email@example.com.
Wiregrass Children’s Home
Whenever there is a birthday at the Wiregrass Children’s Home, Covenant is there to celebrate and let each child know that they are precious and loved by God. Our ministry at the children’s home provides continuity and insures that each child is celebrated equally on their special day! If you would like to volunteer to assist with parties please contact Misty Caddell at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Local Mission Partnerships
Habitat for Humanity
Covenant partners with Habitat for Humanity to build homes for families in need. We provide financial support as well as volunteers. This ministry is overseen by our HIM team (above). In addition to volunteer labor and donated building supplies, you can support this ministry by volunteering to bring meals and refreshments to the workers. Please contact Jim Hicks at email@example.com for more information on how you can serve.
Samaritan’s Clinic is a free clinic that serves the homeless, people on work release, and women from the House of Ruth each Thursday night from 6-8 pm. They are always in need of doctors, nurses and pharmaceutical volunteers as well as people to bring and serve a brown bag type meal. Serving the meal at the clinic is a great opportunity to pray with and minister to people as they wait to be treated. Please contact Barbi Nolan firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested in this ministry.
Harbor Church is called to serve the poor and needy residents of Dothan. They are always in need of non-perishable food items (particularly proteins like meat and beans); personal hygiene items and laundry soap. Each Saturday at 9 am, volunteers participate in “Adopt-A-Block” a walking through the neighborhood around The Harbor Church to meet neighbors, assess their needs, invite them to church and pray with them. If you would like to learn more about this downtown Dothan ministry, please contact Barbi Nolan at email@example.com for more information.
Love in Action Ministries
