What is Lent?
Lent is a period of time between Ash Wednesday (March 5) and Easter (April 20) that is geared towards spiritual purification, meditation and penance. It lasts around 40 days, not including Sundays, drawing from the 40 days Jesus fasted in the desert before starting his ministry. At Covenant, we observe the season of Lent in a number of ways. We begin with an Ash Wednesday service on March 5, and then there are a number of special worship times leading up to Easter Sunday, including Maundy Thursday (commemorating the Last Supper) and Good Friday (marking the day of Christ’s death). Throughout Lent, we will have a sermon series focused on the life and ministry of Christ.
