#CovDoSomething

Posted by:

Each year in October, we turn our focus to serving and making a difference in the name of Jesus.  We will have various mission projects for you to serve and give back to our community throughout the month.  We hope you will make plans to Do Something!

Prayer for Kenya Mission Team
October 2-17
Please be in prayer for Covenant’s short-term mission team in Kenya.  Half of their time in Kenya will be spent at the Africa Gospel Church Baby Center in Ngata leading children’s bible studies and nurturing the babies.  For the other half of the trip the team will be working with Hakima Ministries in Nakuru.  Part of Hakima’s vision is a special need center that will facilitate the care and adoption of orphaned or abandoned special needs children.

Serving at Love in Action
October 12 from 10 am-2 pm
Come and serve with us at Love in Action Ministries (279 W. Main Street).  We will be helping, along with other Love in Action volunteers, to serve breakfast and lunch up front in the Coffee House.  Help is also needed in the back building (Suite 6) to assist in the food, clothing and hygiene pantries or the laundry area.  Most importantly you are needed to share the love of Christ with people that are struggling!  No need to sign up.  Just show up!

Fall Festival at Highlands Elementary
October 22 from 5:15-7:15 pm

We are looking for people who have a passion for children to serve as we provide games, bounce houses, cotton candy and more to the children of Highlands Elementary School.  We count it a blessing to be able to share the love of Jesus with the next generation through this fun atmosphere.  This is a great way for Small Groups to serve!  Candy donations are needed.  Contact Kyle Gatlin at 793.4440 to volunteer.

Let’s Take a Stand Against Hunger Together!
October 30 at 6 pm
Join us for a fast-paced hour of service in our Christian Life Center Gym.  Our goal is to pack 30,000 meals which will be distributed locally through the Wiregrass Food Bank.  Click here to register. Volunteers are needed to help with set up, keeping the stations stocked and clean up.  Please email David Burnham, davidb@covenantdothan.org, if you can help.

Food Pantry at Faine Elementary
Ongoing project for the entire school year
Over 90% of the children at Faine Elementary are on free or reduced lunch. As one of our adopted schools, we are offering supplement food assistance to families in need. Teachers will identify the students and families in need, and food bags will be sent home on various Fridays for families to enjoy over the weekend together. Volunteers are needed to shop at the food bank for specific food items, organize the food pantry at Faine, put together food bags at the school, and deliver food bags to classrooms to be distributed to students.

Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes
Due back at the church on or before November 17
One thing that most everyone can do is PACK A SHOE BOX.  Operation Christmas Child shoe boxes are so much more than a box of goodies for children.  Samaritan’s Purse calls them “GO” boxes – Gospel Opportunities.  Many people do not know that every shoe box includes a booklet called “The Greatest Gift” that teaches children and their families (in their own language) that the greatest gift we could ever receive was given to us more than 2,000 years ago in the person of Jesus Christ.  Every child that receives a shoe box is also given the opportunity to participate in a follow up 12-lesson bible study called “The Greatest Journey” which teaches children what it means to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.  Grab a shoe box from one of our displays on campus and pack a shoe box today.
